Understanding Amazon Main Image Requirements

Your main image on Amazon is the first thing customers see when browsing through search results. It plays a crucial role in attracting clicks and boosting sales. Amazon has strict guidelines for main images to ensure consistency, professionalism, and a seamless shopping experience. Failing to meet these requirements can lead to image rejections, listing suspensions, or reduced conversions. Let’s break down the main image requirements and best practices every seller should know.

Amazon Main Image Requirements

  1. Pure White Background (RGB: 255, 255, 255):
The background of your main image must be pure white to blend seamlessly with Amazon’s interface. Avoid adding text, graphics, or non-white backgrounds.
  2. Product-Centric Image:
The product being sold must occupy at least 85% of the image frame. The focus should be entirely on the product, with no unnecessary empty spaces.
  3. No Additional Text or Graphics:
Amazon does not allow any text, logos, watermarks, or promotional graphics on the main image. These elements are acceptable in secondary images but not on the main image.
  4. High Resolution:
The image should be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side to enable the zoom function. Clear, high-quality images help customers view details and increase buying confidence.
  5. Product in Use:
The main image should showcase the product on its own, without props or models. For example, if you’re selling a chair, only the chair should be in the image—no cushions, rugs, or other accessories unless they are part of the product listing.
  6. No Packaging or Placeholder Images:
Amazon prohibits using placeholder graphics, product packaging, or digitally enhanced images as the main image. Customers want to see the actual product.
  7. File Format:
Acceptable formats include JPEG (.jpg), PNG (.png), TIFF (.tif), or GIF (.gif). JPEG is the most commonly used and recommended format.
